Spine Treatment
Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (PLIF)
Overview & Treatment
Surgical fusion of the lumbar vertebrae from a posterior approach to treat instability and severe nerve compression.
Surgical Procedure & Medical Details
Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (PLIF) is a highly effective, time-tested approach to fusing the lumbar spine. Accessed directly from the back, it allows complete visualization of the nerve roots and central canal. After performing a laminectomy to relieve pressure, the surgeon removes the degenerative disc and inserts structural spacers filled with bone graft to promote solid bone fusion between the vertebrae.
